Does Resident Evil 6 have co-op multiplayer?

Capcom revealed that Resident Evil 6 will see the return of cooperative multiplayer, including both online and split-screen play. Does Resident Evil 6 have co-op multiplayer?

Capcom revealed that Resident Evil 6 will see the return of cooperative multiplayer, including both online and split-screen play. Unlike in Resident Evil 5, the mode will now feature drop-in and drop-out play. Players will be able to come and go as they please and will no longer be forced to return to checkpoints or restart chapters.

The game features only 2 player co-op, however. At select moments during the campaign there will be an online search for players at the same moment in the story but playing a different campaign (eg. Jake/Sherry meet up with Leon/Helena to take on the Ustanak). It will search for 30 seconds to find compatible partners to play the other 2 charcters in the encounter, if successful these encounters can be played up to 4 player co-op.
